PostSubject: High speed Siemens trains in Europe.   Wed May 30, 2007 4:33 am

I had noticed that, the international category was still blank, saying that there are yet to be any topics to be made in the International section.

So, here I am, i came up with a title.

This thread is for anything to do with the High speed trains in Europe, of which have been made by Siemens.

Here is a link to a page within the Siemens website, where you can see information about some of their high speed European trains.

Will any of them work in Australia?

I would say no, firstly they can not work now, as there is no wires, of which these trains require.

Not only that, while they can get up to speed on the flats, they would not get up and over any of the Australias many large hills.

Well some of the trains used by Country Link, in NSW, inparticular to the XPT are of a 1980's British design IIRC.

The hilly terrain will be suitable due to the large HP generated by these beastly machines, but to keep them going at a high speed will require a flat section to build up maximum speed.

There is pretty much no point in running ICE trains in Melbourne as there is no high speed wired sections.

There are also ICE-TD (tild diesels) that can be ordered. Don't know if they will foul our loading gauge.

Another random fact:
SNCF and DB will start an interenational service using TVG POS and ICE-3M trains. The 3Ms version of the ICE 3 used on the LGV Est line will feature the most in advanced technology, with power systems that can take 1.5kv DC, 3kv AC, 25kv AC, French signalling, ECTS, Belgian signally, Switz signalling.
